Kelly Rowland's Career Moving In Right Direction

Seems like former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland had a plan all along. In January she and D.C. manager and Beyonce's dad Matthew Knowles announced that his company would no longer represent her (blog). Not long afterwards, it was reported that she ended her ties with Columbia Records.

No record label and no high powered manager felt like a risky move. But I still thought Kelly could be okay if she made the right strategic decisions. Well, she seems to be doing that.

Today, Yahoo! Music premieres her first music video independent of Knowles and Columbia Records. Kelly who has found much more success as a solo artist internationally than in the US, has teamed with French DJ David Guetta as the lead vocalist on his track "When Love Takes Over."

The pop dance track is No. 2 this week on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart and sounds completely different than anything she has done with Destiny's Child. Even though many popular dance tracks are sung by faceless talents, I think Kelly could definitely win from this collab.

Fortunately, David Guetta takes a backseat in the beachfront video and lets Kelly drive, making it feel like it's her project. (Click here to see behind the scenes photos.) Hopefully, this track will continue to explode and will create even more interest in Kelly.

In a recent interview Kelly said that she didn't set out to make a dance track but when the opportunity to work with Guetta arose, she jumped at it. Maybe this is a direction she should consider. It's also good that she takes on something with a global feel.

She's a good talent, and I hope she finds her niche.
